We visited Alabama as we made our way east in January 2017. We didn’t do nearly as much exploring as we should have. We were mainly down near the Gulf Shores.
We moved from Biloxi Mississippi to near Robertsdale Alabama. The day we got in, we ventured out to Camping World and bought a Splendide 2100XC Washer/dryer combo (<ATTN AFFILIATE LINK) unit for the RV, no more laundromats for us!!
Our first day exploring, we met up with another full time family we met through the Fulltime Family Friend Finder, and went to Battleship Memorial Park. It’s home to the USS Alabama and the USS Drum. In addition to those 2 ships, there were many planes and boats. It was pretty cool seeing the old ship, and everything else. The kids enjoyed exploring and playing with our new friends.
The next day we actually went over the border into Florida and explored the Gulf Shores National Seashore some more. We went to Fort Pickins, an old ford that saw action during the civil war. It was a windy, rainy day, so we didn’t play on the beach.
The next couple days were pretty crazy. There were many storms that came through, and we were in the middle of several tornado warnings/watches. It rained a lot, and we didn’t venture too far away from home through the weekend. And then the sun came out! And so did we.
We packed up and drove down to Gulf Shores Alabama. We wanted to go paddle boarding, but it was windy, so we settled from some beach therapy! The kids played on the beach, built sand castles, played in the Gulf of Mexico, and even watched a bunch of dolphins feeding. It was a great day soaking up the sun. The wind finally died down, and we were able to get out on the water! We put in on Cotton Bayou and played around the bay. The kids got to check out some dolphins feeding there, and there were tons of hermit crabs for them to catch. On the way home, we stopped and rode the go karts in Gulf Shores! It was a great last day in Alabama.
