Who doesn’t love ice cream? And anyone who loves ice cream probably knows of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. While traveling across I-89 we stumbled across the home to this delicious brand, and pulled in to check it out.
What is it?
Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory located in Waterbury Vermont is a great roadside attraction along I-89 just east of Burlington. The factory offers guided tours and a peek inside the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream brand. In addition to being a tourist attraction, it’s a fully functioning production plant. In addition to the factory tour, there is a playground for kids to play, a craft area, a Flavor Graveyard full of flavors discontinued through the years, cows are available for fun photo ops and there are many fun interactive displays throughout the campus.
Good to know:
*Located 1.2 miles North of I-89 at exit 10.
*Plenty of free parking, with ample space for RVs.
*Hours vary by season, but during the busy tourist season the factory is open until 9pm, which is later than most other tourist attractions in the area.
*They offer a 30 min guided tour whether they are producing ice cream or not, and include a delicious sample at the end of the tour. You can call ahead to verify if they are in production or not.
*Costs $4 for adults (13 and over).
*Kids 12 and under are free.
*Tours run every 30 minutes; space is limited and tends to sell out. Its best to get your tour tickets right away when you get there, then explore while waiting for your tour.
*Other than the tour, all of the other attractions are free to the public.
*Open year round except Thanksgiving, Christmas day and New Year’s Day.
*They have a full service ice cream scoop shop on site; you can try all of their flavors and take some for the road.
*
There is a huge gift shop with tons of Ben & Jerry’s Swag available for purchase.
This is definitely a roadside attraction worth stopping for if you happen to be traveling through Vermont. The staff was all very friendly and knowledgeable, and besides, who doesn’t like to sample new flavors of ice cream?
