Raspberry pi imager is a very helpful tool to get you started on your journey. It is free and is available for download on mac and windows and raspberry pi. You can download it here https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/. If you have pi-apps it is available there too. The imager is used to write disk images on to SD cards for your operating system. To open it click the application menu on raspberry pi and go to accessory’s.

Once open the it should look like this.

The first thing is the operating system. This is where you choose what OS you plan to use for your pi. There are tons of different types of OS that you can use. Next is the storage. This is where you select the SD card that you want to write it to. Once you press write it will ask for your confirmation. Once given, it will begin to write on to the card. It might take a little while to complete so be patient.
Once it is done it will tell you that you can now eject the card. If you insert it in to a raspberry pi it should come up with the start screen of whatever software that you downloaded on to it.
