Joshua Tree Again

When the boys are ready to do some running, what is the best place to go?  Joshua Tree National Park is at the top of our list.  Our boys love climbing and exploring there. So, we loaded up most of the family and headed over.

On the way we stopped at one of the visitor centers to grab some postcards for our Patrons and Grandmas.  When we left the visitor center we saw a gift shop across the street. We usually avoid gift shops because they are usually the same old souvenirs that we don’t want, need or have space for.  We decided to stop anyway and we found exactly what we expected, the same random gift shop stuff that they have at every gift shop across the country.  But today we decided to buy some candy.

Not just any candy, cricket pops and scorpion brittle.  As soon as we got to Joshua Tree the kids dug in to their protein filled candy.  They claimed that crickets taste like worms and the scorpion tasted like chocolate.  I’m not sure I trust their taste buds, but I guess until I try for myself, I won’t know.

Once we finished our candy and our lunch we headed for the rocks.  Joshua Tree has great boulders to climb on, under and around.  They are all made of granite and provide great traction, as long as you stay on your feet.  If you fall, it scratches you up real good.  Colin tested that theory several times and finished off the day with bloody knees.

We lucked out with the weather.  It was warm, not too hot, but still incredibly windy.  It always seems to be windy at this park.  But we’ve been there when it was scorching hot and freezing cold, so we were thankful for mild temperatures.

We ended our day with a calm, traffic free drive and gorgeous sunsets.

About Fummins Family

In 2016 a family hit the road with 5 of their children. They were going to travel the country in a Ford Excursion that had a cummins engine. A ford with a cummins, hence the name, Fummins. Ford+Cummins=Fummins. It was going to be a fummins family roadtrip. Within 3 months they decided that the travel trailer they were pulling wasn't working well for their family. They needed more space so they upgraded to a fifth wheel. It's not easy to pull a fifth wheel with an excursion, so they had to bid farewell to the fummins. They talked about changing the name of theirs travels, but decided to hold onto it for a while longer. They already had a website, blog, youtube, instagram and facebook. After 2 more years they decided to make the switch to Roadschool. Here they will share some of the old posts and video. It may be old information, but it's still just as good...at least most of it!
