Spending time in Central Florida and looking for something to do that isn’t the beach or Disney? Look no further than Myakka River State Park. This is one of Florida’s oldest and largest parks and is known for its rare birds, many of which are only seen in Florida. This diverse park offers wildlife viewing, boating, fishing, hiking, biking and even a walk along the tree canopy.
What is it?
Myakka River State park covers 58 square miles of Florida wetlands and is a short drive from Sarasota. This Florida state park has an excellent system of trails for walking, hiking and biking. The park has daily Air Boat and Tram tours that are all very family friendly. The park offers opportunities for bird watching and viewing many different species of wildlife including the Florida alligators.

This park is a great day spent away from the more common tourist attractions of Central and Southern Florida. It was very educational for adults and children alike on wildlife, plant life and regional history. It’s definitely a budget & family friendly place to spend time and I’d recommend for anyone in the area.
