When we started this adventure, we had the first month mapped out; we would stay a week here, a week there, and slowly make our way. In an effort to see more places, we ended up changing our plans, and it turned into 3 days here, 4 days there, and we were constantly moving it seemed like, and we were always out seeing things. It’s safe to say, we kind of burnt ourselves out a little bit, and we spent a lot of time in the car.
It’s been a while since I posted in our blog. And the last time I did, it didn’t say anything. Today we moved from just outside Yosemite National Park, and passed our 3000 mile mark. We weren’t anywhere cool, so I didn’t bother to stop and take a picture. We were headed south on I5 through California in between some pistachio fields. So we have officially been on the road for 41 days, and traveled just over 3000 miles.
Since our last real post, we left the Cloverdale area and went up to Yosemite National Park. Along the way we stopped and had a picnic outside the Jelly Belly Factory, and took a sweet (literally) tour of it. And we got some free samples!!!
I will start by saying that Yosemite is a beautiful area. We spent the first day getting our bearings with the area, did some grocery shopping and visited a museum. The second day we ventured down into Yosemite Valley Visitors area. We have been to a lot of national parks, but none of them have been this crowded. It almost felt like Disney Land. When we got home from the park that day, we decided to take a day off. So we did just that and then some. We spent the next several days just sitting around camp. We did a short hike near home, the boys biked and played ball with the neighbors. The weather was beautiful for the first part of our visit there, and then it rained. And it rained some more, and it was even raining when we were packing to leave. It rained pretty much from Thursday evening through Monday morning. So we stayed inside, played games, and relaxed. I don’t want to discourage anyone from visiting Yosemite, but definitely plan on it being like a busy theme park. There are shuttles busses, and long lines. But in between those things, you will definitely see some majestic mountains that are truly beautiful. Plan on bringing some $$$. Groceries are expensive, fuel is very expensive, and although we didn’t pay for our spot there, it can be pricey too.
