As we drove through Pigeon Forge on our way to our campground, our eyes were blinded from the bright lights on all the tourist attractions. One attraction stood out to us more than the others. It was the HMS Titanic steaming through the ocean on the side of the road in Eastern Tennessee. Of course we had to go!
What is it?
The Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge Tennessee is built half-scale to the original ship. The ship is built in a pool to create the illusion of the Titanic at sea. This half of a ship is home to 400 personal and private artifacts from the tragic journey. As you enter the museum, you are given a passenger boarding ticket with the name of an actual Titanic passenger. You make your way through the museum, you experience the luxury of the ship and you get to feel the water at the temperatures it was when it sank. You learn the history of the ship, and the crew. If you are a pianist, you can play a replica 100 year old grand piano in the ball room and earn yourself a collectible post card. At the end of the 2 hour self-guided tour you find out whether your ticketed passenger survived in the Titanic Memorial Room.

Being a large family, we have to watch our budget, especially when in a large tourist area. We pick and choose our “fun stuff” activities closely, and we were happy with our decision to visit the Titanic Museum. In an area full of go-carts and Dolly World there are many choices of where to spend your hard earned dollars, but we would recommend the Titanic Museum, especially for anyone that is interested in the history behind the tragic maiden voyage.
